Building Permit Fee Harmonization

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETINGS

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene and the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Midland will hold public meetings on the dates and times listed below in order to consider proposed amendments to each Town’s Building By-law, being By-laws to Regulate Construction, Demolition, and Change of Use Permits for Buildings, Structures, and All Other Related Services.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT – The Towns of Penetanguishene and Midland have jointly provided Ontario Building Code (OBC) enforcement and administration since 2015 and have recently extended the Agreement to 2021. As part of the harmonization of OBC enforcement and administration between the Towns, each is proposing to amend the Administrative Fees and Services portions of their By-laws and replace with a new Schedule respecting the harmonization of permit fees in the two Towns.  The proposed amendment follows a review of the building permit fees under Section 7(b) of the Building Code Act. The effect will be to modify the Administrative Fees and Services Schedules of each By-law. Information will be provided at the meetings on the estimated costs of enforcing and administering the Building Code Act, the amount of the proposed fee(s) and the rationale for changing (and/or imposing) fees.

ANY PERSON may attend the Public Meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed fees.
