COVID-19 Municipal Impacts – January 8th, 2021
The Town of Penetanguishene continues to monitor news and updates concerning COVID-19 in order to ensure we work to keep our community members safe. The following update provided on January 8th, 2021 is in addition to the updates provided in previous weeks here.
The Town of Penetanguishene municipal offices are operating by appointment only beginning January 4th, until further notice. Residents are encouraged to use online options for service where applicable.
How to contact the Town for questions and appointments: Our website outlines each department and provides contact information for the appropriate staff member you may need. Staff will work with residents to complete tasks over the phone, through drop box services and by email. In rare cases where virtual methods are not available, residents can call the following numbers to book an appointment.

Fire Permits and Dog Tags: As of January 4th, 2021, Fire Permits and Dog Tags are required and are available for through our website and email. Completed forms can be submitted by email to finance@penetanguishene.ca or through the Town Hall drop box.

Online Payment for Mid-Pen Transit: Mid-Pen Transit riders can now reload their transit SmartCards from the comfort of their homes or on their mobile devices when they’re on the go using the new Mid-Pen Transit Service Online Portal. Reminder, that transit riders are required to wear a non-medical mask when riding the bus, with exceptions given to certain individuals based on the Chief Medical Officer’s instructions.
Provincial Shutdown: On December 21, 2020, the Government of Ontario announced a COVID 19: Provincewide Shutdown which outlines details on schools, daycares, businesses permitted to be open and sector-specific restrictions. In Simcoe Muskoka the restrictions were in effect as of Saturday, December 26, 2020 and will last until January 23, 2021. The Town is encouraging residents to stay home and keep our community safe based on public health recommendations.
Changes to Municipal Recreation and Programs: The Arena is currently closed for all users under the provincewide shutdown. All in-person municipal run programing has been postponed until further notice. If you have any questions relating to Municipal Recreation, please contact Sherry Desjardins, Director of Recreation and Community Services.
Outdoor Rink: The Penetanguishene Lions Club have begun to prepare the outdoor rink surface located next to Knight Haven Bowling Lanes, 17 Poyntz St, Penetanguishene. Volunteers will be flooding and making sure the ice surface is smooth for all skaters anxiously awaiting the outdoor ice-skating location. Notice will be provided through social media once the surface is ready to be used. Note that capacity limits will be in place (first come first served), and that the rink will be open for skating only with no hockey related activities permitted at this time.
Town Council: Penetanguishene Council will meet for the first time in 2021 this coming Wednesday, January 13, at 7PM. Agendas and Minutes continue to be available on our website. The public is welcome to join these meetings virtually.
