Main Street Reconstruction Update - July 13, 2018
Due to the complexity of the work being completed in the intersection at Robert Street the contractor has requested that the Town allow them to extend the closure in the intersection until August 3rd, which is the Friday of the Civic Holiday weekend. To eliminate the opening and closing of the intersection multiple times, the Town has approved this request. There is still the potential for the contractor to be completed before August 3rd, but extending the closure minimizes any future works required in the intersection. JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending July 13th, 2018:
- Robert Street and Main Street intersection closed and underground works continuing;
- Asphalt Placed from Tessier Lane to 63 Main Street, with the intersection at Water Street/Simcoe Street remaining unpaved as decorative interlocking stone will be placed as part of the streetscaping;
- Water main testing from Water Street/Simcoe Street to Robert Street;
- Excavation, Granular Placement and sub-drain installation on Main Street south from the intersection of Water Street/Simcoe Street to 83 Main Street;
- Curb installed from Tessier Lane to 63 Main street; and,
- Curb has been removed from Robert Street to Poyntz Street.
The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of July 16th, 2018 to July 20th, 2018:
- Continue Robert Street and Main intersection underground works;
- Sanitary Main, Stormwater Main, and Watermain from Robert Street to Poyntz Street;
- Tie in new Watermain from Water Street/Simcoe Street to Robert Street and connect all water services to the new Watermain;
- Continue Concrete Planter Curb and Curb Installation from 63 Main Street heading south;
- Watermain swabbing, flushing, and testing in the Main Street and Robert Street Intersection; and,
- Sidewalk installation from Tessier Lane to Water Street/Simcoe Street and continuing south up Main Street.
As we have all become accustomed to the new detour routes the Town would like to remind motorists to remain alert for children and pedestrians who are in the residential neighbourhoods that the detours run through. For those living in these areas, the increase in vehicular traffic can quickly become a nuisance if speeding or aggressive driving is observed and the children playing are not used to heavy traffic volumes.
The Town and JB Enterprises would like to say a special “Thank you” to all of our very patient business owners and tenants in the Main Street corridor. Your support and enthusiasm towards the eventual completion of the project is contagious and our small community will continue to thrive because of your positive outlook and assistance.
