Notice of Public Information Centre: Payette Water System Secondary Water Supply Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

The Town of Penetanguishene (the Town) has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for the Payette Water System. The purpose of this MCEA is to identify near- and long- term recommendations to address water supply redundancy within the Town.

Background:  In the 1990’s the Town’s Robert Street wells were taken out of service. Since that time, the Town has primarily relied on water from the Payette Drive well supply. A number of options have been considered by the Town in the past to increase water supply redundancy. Options considered previously have included: maintaining the status quo, adding a new well field, adding treatment to the Robert Street wells, and others.

Preliminary Preferred Alternative: Several options have been evaluated to select the preferred secondary water supply alternative for the Town. The preliminary preferred alternative identified through this MCEA is to Provide Treatment at the Robert Street Wellfield to supply up to 3,723 m3/day.

Public Consultation: The preliminary preferred alternative may have an impact on stakeholders and property owners, therefore, public consultation is a key element of the process. A Public Information Centre (PIC) is being held to gather input from stakeholders and residents on the preliminary preferred solution. All those interested in the project are invited to attend. The meeting will include a public comment and question period.

Date: Thursday, April 27, 2023

Start Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Council Chambers, 10 Robert Street West, Penetanguishene, ON
