Celebrating Irene Ashworth - Our 2020 Senior Award Winner
June 16, 2020 – On Wednesday June 10th, The Town of Penetanguishene awarded Irene Ashworth the 2020 Senior of the year award. The award program recognizes seniors in our community who have made outstanding voluntary contributions to enriching the social, cultural or civic life of our community.
In the years Irene has lived in Penetanguishene her volunteer activities have made the Town a better place to live. She is an engaged member of the Town of Penetanguishene’s Museum & Heritage Advisory Committee and is an active participant in three key community organizations. “Irene is not just a volunteer who shows up for a day. Her level of involvement could be measured on a much larger scale as it includes event planning, organization and fundraising initiatives as well” Nicole Jackson, Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Achieves Curator.
The Town of Penetanguishene and its residents greatly benefit from Irene’s involvement with the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum – Friends of the Museum since 2014, Penetanguishene Public Library since 2012 and Penetanguishene Lions Club for over three years.
It is easy to see that Irene Ashworth has been and continues to be a valuable and instrumental volunteer, who brings many years of work experience, ideas and energy to all tasks that she tackles. “She has developed a vast pipeline of contacts through her activities and is a great supporter of our community events, social and cultural” explains Mayor Doug Leroux. “She does the mundane as well as the glory tasks and we are thrilled that she has chosen to call Penetanguishene home!”
