The Town of Penetanguishene continues to monitor news and updates concerning COVID-19 in order to ensure we work to keep our community members safe. To make sure our community can stay involved and up to date we will continue to provide weekly updates through our website email subscription service.

OPP Reporting Tool:
We remind residents that OPP ask that you report allegations of non-compliance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act by phoning 1-888-310-1122 or utilizing the online reporting tool at opp.ca/reporting.

Business Assistance Information:
North Simcoe Community Futures under a Regional Relief and Recovery Fund
(NSCFDC): NSCDFC will focus on assisting “main street” businesses, such as retail shops, restaurants, corner stores, and businesses of strategic importance to their communities, with loans up to $40,000. https://nscfdc.on.ca/_en/RRRFProgram
North Simcoe Economic Development Corporation (EDCNS): EDCNS is providing “Open for Business” recovery kits, which include items such as;
- One-way shopping arrows
- Face masks/shields
- Hand sanitizer
- Social distancing posters
- $200 voucher towards purchase of POS barrier(s)

Recently available for Penetanguishene businesses is access to the Digital Main Street Program who give assistance and consultation to business to assist in using digital technology. Contact the Southern Georgian Bay Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC) for more information by telephone at: 705-446-3355 or by email at sbec@collingwood.ca.
Gas Tax Funds:
The Federal government announced on Monday that they would advance 100% of these funds in June, rather than 50% in July and 50% in November. The Town of Penetanguishene 2020 Federal Gas Tax allocation is $271,873. Our 2020 Federal Gas Tax funds are included in our 2020 capital budget and will be utilized for the completion of Intersection Upgrades at Robert Street East and Fuller Avenue. The Federal government also stated that they would continue discussions with the Province on any additional financial relief measures for municipalities.
COVID-19 Temporary Financial Relief Measures:
Council has approved short-term financial relief measures and staff continue to analyze longer term relief measures for Council consideration as well as further cost containment opportunities moving forward.
Reduced Work Week:
Given the Province’s re-opening framework, and the need to re-implement services for our community, the Town is suspending the Reduced Work Week program effective June 14, 2020 for all Town staff. Staff will continue to focus on immediate tasks and areas that are maintaining areas that are highly traveled over the course of COVID-19 Pandemic.
Community Improvement Plan:
A virtual public meeting will be held to consider a proposed community improvement plan (CIP) for the Town of Penetanguishene, pursuant to the provisions of the Planning Act. This meeting will be held at 7PM using the platform Zoom, on June 10th, 2020. Please refer to the full CIP public notice here.
Fire Safety:
Fire permits are not required at this time. Please remember that fires are for recreational purposes and are only permitted between 4:00 pm to midnight. Please refer to the “Open Air Burning Permit Terms and Conditions” attachment for guidelines and more information.
