Council Highlights - July 31, 2019
Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.
- Council declared that September be recognized as Indigenous Culture Month in the Town of Penetanguishene.
- Council declared September 21-29 National Coaches Week.
- Council received an update regarding the Complete Applications for 1145 Fuller Avenue (St. Andrew’s Village) being applications for a Draft Plan of Subdivision and Zoning By-law Amendment.
- Council approved the Site Plan for reconfiguration and improvements to the parking area at 2 Poyntz Street (Penetang Village Square Mall) subject to final engineering design approval from the Director of Public Works.
- Council approved the Art Proposal submitted by Camille Myles to create a Public Art piece titled “Land of the White Rolling Sands” for installation on the “Harbour Lookout” location on Main Street.
- Council directed staff to provide comments to the Environmental Registry Postings regarding changes to the Planning Act, the Development Charges Act and proposed new regulations on the Community Benefits Authority.
- Council approved staff seeking further direction on a 2020 funding application to the County of Simcoe’s Age-Friendly Municipal Grant Program for the development of a local Age-Friendly assessment and plan once the Town’s Strategic Plan has been adopted.
- Council approved the sole-source purchase of LED Luminaires through Ideal Supply.
- There were three Public Meetings held regarding the Zoning By-law Amendment to remove the Holding “H” Symbol for the properties municipally known as 17 McArthur Drive, 51 Church Street, and 1720 Tay Point Road. All properties were approved and the By-laws were passed.
- Council and the Senior Management Team participated in a workshop regarding the Town’s Strategic Plan including a review of project progress & community feedback received, strategic goals/directions review & exercise, action items/initiatives review & exercise, and next steps.
