Council Highlights - May 22, 2019
- Council discussed three items in-camera (closed session) being that of 1 Water Street – Mural Update, Town-owned lands on Church Street and Fox Street, and the Compensation Review.
- Council presented certificates of congratulations to the Penetanguishene Bantam Rep Team – Bantam ‘B’ International Silver Stick Champions.
- Council received a presentation regarding an update on the Annual Terry Fox Run event.
- Council appointed members to the Community Wellbeing Committee, the Trails Advisory Committee and the Main Street Art Ad-hoc Committee.
- Council proclaimed the month of June to be Seniors Month.
- Council approved the 2019 Tax Rates and Levies.
- Council approved staff submissions of comments to the Ministry regarding Bill 108 – More Homes More Choice Act, 2019.
- Council deferred the discussion regarding the Regional Government Review to the May 29, 2019 meeting.
- Council ratified the decisions from the May 8, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting.
- Council passed seven (7) By-laws including setting the rates of taxation for the year 2019, an agreement with McNamara Powerline, an agreement for Pre-servicing for Bellisle Hights Subdivision – Phase 3), an agreement with Fire Marque Inc, and agreement with the County of Simcoe for Wildland Firefighting Services, an exemption of Part Lot Control for 27-37 Payette Drive, and an agreement with Township of Georgian Bay for Human Resources and Health & Safety shared services.
Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):
- Committee received the monthly Transit Ridership report.
- Committee approved the disposal of surplus items.
- Committee approved the prequalification of engineering consulting services.
- Committee approved the agreement extension with the Town of Midland for Transit.
- Committee awarded the design and supply of a park playground at McGuire Park.
- Committee received the monthly animal control update.
- Committee received an update regarding downtown parking enforcement.
- Committee received an update regarding the joint insurance renewal strategy.
- Committee approved the 2018 Reserves and Reserve Funds Continuity schedule.
- Committee approved the proposed Code of Conduct for Boards and Committees.
- Committee supported the SMDHU request to the Ministry to keep the full territory of the health unit, Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka, whole.
- Committee supported the SMDHU proclamation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
- Committee supported the Ontario Library Service North and Southern Ontario motion for Library funding.
