Council Highlights - October 30, 2019

Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.​

Special Committee of the Whole – Budget (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):

• Committee received additional information regarding three staffing requests including an Active Transportation Coordinator, a Communication & Strategy Specialist, and Information and Technology Specialist.
• Committee received an update from the Treasurer regarding the amendments made to the 2020 Draft budget as directed at the October 2, 2019 Budget meeting.
• Committee amended the 2020 Draft Budget as follows:
  • Active Transportation staffing operating funding allocation be reduced from $44,663 to $25,000.   CARRIED
  • Operating funding for the Communications and Strategy Specialist and Information and Technology Specialist be reduced to $150,000 focusing the service delivery options to only Communications, Information Technology and Records Management job specifications.
  • Grant request from Wendat in the amount of $8,000 be included in the 2020 Budget to be allocated from the Policing Reserve. 
  • The Huronia Airport be asked to attend the next budget meeting to provide information related to the grant request.
  • A grant request from Southern Georgian Bay Family Physician Recruitment was considered, but the motion to support was defeated.
  • Director of Public works be directed to provide options for additional asphalt maintenance program opportunities.  
  • $20,000 be included in the 2020 Budget for an additional Main Street Art project to be funded by the Community Development Fund.
