Council Highlights - October 9, 2019
Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.
- Council received updates for information related to correspondence received from the County of Simcoe re: Harbour Pointe Subdivision, Building Permit Refusal for 138 Robert Street West, and 1 Water Street litigation.
- Council held the Statutory Public Meeting and reviewed the background information for the proposed Draft Plan of Subdivision and Zoning By-law Amendment for 176 and 200 Fox Street (formerly the Bay Moorings Marina).
- Council directed staff to submit comments to the Province related to proposed changes the Provincial Policy Statement.
- Council directed staff to support the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Towards a Reasonable Balance: Addressing growing municipality liability and insurance costs.
- Council approved the staff recommendation to proceed with pursing a Francophone University within Penetanguishene.
- Council approved the resolutions passed at the September 25, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting and the October 2, 2019 Special Committee of the Whole Meeting.
- Council approved one By-law being to authorize entering into an agreement with Region of Huronia Environmental Services Limited (ROHES) for Biosolids Management Services.
Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):
- Committee received a deputation from Greg Defreitis of Batavia Homes re: Subdivision Agreement - Phase 2 Harbour Pointe Subdivision (formerly Phase 3 of the Bellisle Heights Subdivision).
- Committee received a deputation from Penetang Sand and Gravel re: Subdivision Agreement - Phase 2 Harbour Pointe Subdivision (formerly Phase 3 of the Bellisle Heights Subdivision).
- Committee received an update regarding the County Road 93 Multi-use Trail Project.
- Committee approved a fare changes to the fare card purchase price and transit fare structure.
- Committee approved that staff return to Committee of the Whole with a follow-up report if any additional opportunities for ICIP – Community, Culture and Recreation grand funding is announced.
- Committee approved changes to the wharf user fees effective January 1, 2020.
- Committee approved retaining Mr. Quinto Annibale of Loopstra Nixon, LLP to represent the Town regarding an appeal to the Town’s new Official Plan.
- Committee directed staff to proceed with submitting an application to the County of Simcoe’s 2019 Economic Development Funding Program for two projects – Secondary Plan for the Town Dock and an update to the Business Retention and Expansion Study from 2009.
- Committee directed staff to amend the Subdivision Agreement for Phase 2 of Harbour Pointe Subdivision and bring forward the final agreement for consideration.
- Committee received for information a progress update related to Service Delivery Review.
