Council Meeting Highlights – June 10th, 2020

- Council received a presentation regarding Senior of the Year, 2020. The award was granted to Irene Ashworth.
- Council received a presentation from Don Chapman regarding the 40th Anniversary of The Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.
- Council held a Public Meeting on the proposed Community Improvement Plan. Direction was given to staff to prepare a report for the next Committee of the Whole meeting to address any comments received at the Public Meeting.
- Councilpassed a resolution to fight racism and discrimination in our community and directed staff to return with a report related to Penetanguishene joining the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities.
- Council received a verbal report from the Chief Administrative Officer regarding the municipality’s COVID-19 situation update.
- Council received an update regarding the Impact to the 2020 Capital Budget related to the Essential Services.
- Council approved the Project Lifesaver Funding Request as per the recommendation from the Police Services Board.
- Council awarded the Arena Feasibility Study RFP to Monteith Brown Planning Consultants.
- Council approved the creation of a Business Recovery Task Force Ad Hoc Committee to meet and discuss a local economic development response to the pandemic.
- Council passed four by-laws including; adopting the Budget Estimates of All Sums Required for the Year 2020; a by-law to Set the Rates of Taxation For the Year 2020;a by-law to Amend By-law 2019-80 to Provide for a 2020 Interim Tax Levy for the Payment of Taxes and to Provide for Penalty and Interest of 15% per Annum and a By-law to Authorize the Execution of an Agreement Between The Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene and Christine Patenaude for the Operation of the Concession Booth until August 31st, 2022.
- Committee received Council Information package for information.
- Committee received Midland Penetanguishene Transit Ridership Monthly Update for information purposes.
- Committee approved the adoption of the 2020-2025 Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan.
- Committee approved the Harbour Pointe Subdivision Phase 2 – Initial Acceptance of Sidewalks and Second Stage Curb.
- Committee received a Memorandum to Council Which indicated that an application for a Draft Plan of Subdivision and a Zoning By-law amendment applications have been declared complete a that a Public Meeting will be held on July, 8th.
- Committee reviewed a draft of an updated Property Standards By-law and directed staff to bring the final by-law to the next Council meeting for approval. Council requested input from the public prior to a final decision on the draft By-law which is to be considered on July 8th.
- Committee received the COVID-19 Financial Impacts Update Report #3 for information.

- Council discussed the County Road 93 Award Drain Clean Out and determined to move forward with Option 2.
- Council received an update from the Chief Administrative Officer regarding the Simcoe County District School Board Surplus Property - 51 Dunlop Street, Penetanguishene, ON (former P.S.S.)
