COVID-19 Municipal Update November 27, 2020
The Town of Penetanguishene continues to monitor news and updates concerning COVID-19 in order to ensure we work to keep our community members safe. The following update provided on November 27th is in addition to the updates provided in previous weeks here.
Simcoe Muskoka is in ORANGE - Restrict level classification: See the Province’s COVID-19 response framework: keeping Ontario safe and open for what this means. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) and local municipalities may also implement local public health directions, bylaws, and policies which can exceed the provincial laws and recommendations.
Special Statements from the Medical Officer of Health:
- On November 24, 2020, Dr. Gardner released a Special Statement to residents of Simcoe Muskoka regarding close contact, gatherings and events, travel within Ontario and General Advice. Please refer to the full statement here.
- On November 26, 2020, Dr. Gardner released a letter to businesses and organizations in the municipality to outline instructions for additional public health measures in Simcoe Muskoka. The full letter is available here.
Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (Arena): In light of Dr. Gardner’s recent recommendations, outlined above, the Arena has transitioned to restricted access started immediately to refrain individuals who reside in a red or grey zone from visiting our facilities.
Penetanguishene Centennial Museum: As of November 28, all visitors to the museum must book an appointment to visit the museum, access the gift shop or utilize the genealogy & history research room. Appointments can be made by calling the museum at 705-549-2150 or through email at museum@penetanguishene.ca. The museum also asks that all individuals whose primary residence lies within the Red/Control & Grey/Lockdown areas not visit the museum at this time. These measures are in place following the recommendations of the Province's COVID-19 Response Framework.
Winter Holiday Celebrations: As you begin to plan for winter holiday celebrations, we would like to offer the following recommendations to help protect you, your family, friends, and coworkers from COVID-19 this holiday season:
- Virtual celebrations with people you don’t live with are the safest way to celebrate with others and ensure we don’t spread COVID-19 especially to your friends and family and those most vulnerable. This year start a new tradition by calling or video chatting, having an online office secret Santa, a Zoom Karaoke or Trivia Night, or joining a religious service online or on television.
- Talk with family, friends and coworkers about the traditions you are able to continue, like the ugly sweater contest, sharing a recipe online, making a video of you singing a song or reading a passage.
- Mail packages to friends and family and have a virtual gift opening.
FIRE AND OPP REMINDERS
OPP Reporting Tool: We remind residents that OPP ask that you report allegations of non-compliance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act by phoning 1-888-310-1122 or utilizing the online reporting tool at opp.ca/reporting.
Fire Safety: Fire permits are not required at this time. Please remember that fires are for recreational purposes and are only permitted between 4:00 pm to midnight. Please ensure you follow all guidelines outlined here.
