Main Street Reconstruction Project Update - May 25, 2018

Main Street reconstruction progress

If you have the opportunity to check the progress with the Main Street Reconstruction this week you will see that the curb has been placed in the initial phase of reconstruction.  The road bed has been prepared and will be receiving new asphalt on or around June 5th, 2018.  This is certainly very exciting news for residents and businesses in the initial phase of the project.  JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending May 25th, 2018:

  • Sub drain, which helps prevent road bed issues, installed from Wolfe Street to Tessier Drive,
  • Excavation to pre-grade and granular placement for road bed construction to Tessier Drive,
  • Curb installation from Wolfe Street to Tessier Drive,
  • Watermain flushing and Testing from Beck Boulevard and Wolfe Street to Tessier Drive;
  • Temporary watermain installation to Robert Street has been initiated.

The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of May 28th to June 1st, 2018:

  • Continue installation of the temporary watermain up to Robert Street,
  • Installation of fencing to provide a safety barrier between the sidewalk and the active work zone from Tessier Lane to the Simcoe Street and Water Street Intersection.
  • Pulverize asphalt from Tessier Lane to the Water Street and Simcoe Street intersection (including the intersection),
  • Sidewalk installation from Wolfe Street to Brock Street on the west side
  • Excavation to road pre-grade and granular placement on the Sewage Treatment Plant Lane;
  • Placement and compaction of Granular A and final grading in Section one to be ready for the placement of asphalt the following week.

The Manager of Capital Projects has been making his way around to the Main Street businesses to advise them that the next phase of the reconstruction will be started on May 28th, 2018. This will also mean that the road closed signs (local traffic only), alternate parking signs, detour signs and business direction signs will be relocated to the Robert Street intersection.  The new detour routes are identified in the Traffic Control Plan for the second phase, which is available on the municipal website.

 As stated in the reconstruction update last week, the businesses of Penetanguishene are remaining open during the reconstruction to serve us all, please show them your appreciation by shopping local when you can.

 We would like to thank you again for your patience and co-operation during this work.  Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
