Main Street Reconstruction Update - August 24, 2018
This week has seen the Streetscaping aspect of the project start to take shape with the installation of the vehicle pavers in the intersection at Water Street and Simcoe Street and the installation of the decorative pavers from Brock Street to Wolfe Street. Progress with the Sanitary Main is moving well given the depths that they are working at. JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending August 24, 2018:
- Removed the Sanitary Bypass from the Main Street with the intention of not having to utilize it anymore;
- Paver Stones in the Boulevard on the West side of Main Street from Water Street to Robert Street underway;
- Completed Water Main Flushing and Testing;
- Sanitary and Storm including services complete on Main St. from Robert to Poyntz;
- Placed paving stones at the Simcoe Street and Water Street Intersection;
- Excavation and placement of granulars continue on Main heading south from Poyntz Street;
- Traffic light base and poles installation continues in the Robert Street and Main Street Intersection;
- Completed Storm Mainline; and,
- New Watermains tied in to existing Watermains at Poyntz Street Intersection.
The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of August 27th, 2018 to August 31st, 2018:
- Open Water Street and Simcoe Street Intersection upon completion of the Paver Stones;
- Continue sanitary installation heading South from Jeffery Street;
- Continue placing paver stones in the boulevard on the west side of Main Street from Water Street to Robert Street;
- Final Grading of Granulars from Robert Street to Jeffery Street in preparation for asphalt;
- Place Asphalt from Robert Street to Jeffery Street;
- Start Curbs from Robert to Jeffery Street;
- Continue Sanitary services from Jeffery heading South; and,
- Place Interlock Stone in the Angle Parking on Main Street.
Please be aware that by using the toll free number 1-888-310-1122, you can report any driving related concerns or observed illegal driving behaviours to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the information is tracked and monitored. This provides the OPP with the information to react if necessary.
In order to keep the detour routes and streets around the reconstruction zone clean of sand and gravel that has spilled onto the roads, the Public Works department is sweeping the streets to keep the travelled portion of the road clean and to keep the dust under control. This activity may take place in the early morning hours to avoid the increased vehicle traffic that starts when people are heading to work. The weekly street sweeping will only be temporary but will take place until the detour routes are no longer being affected by the reconstruction.
The Town is currently working with the Village Square Mall Ownership, JB Enterprises and other groups to have a temporary access installed to the mall property. That being said, driving through the mall property to solely access Poyntz Street is a serious risk to the many pedestrians that freely move around the parking lot. If you are not intending on using the services or stores that are in the Village Square Mall property, please refrain from using this as a shortcut. Following the posted detour routes is a much safer alternative.
