Main Street Reconstruction Update - November 9, 2018

Main Street Reconstruction Update - November 9, 2018

Our Main Street Reconstruction project has really started to take shape in the last week with sod being placed, trees and shrubs being planted and social areas being completed. Seeing the project move towards completion should give us all a renewed sense of pride for our beautiful Town.    JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending November 9, 2018:

  • Completed Finish Asphalt, including the Thompsons Road intersection;
  • Sod Placed in all areas and Plantings Started;
  • Driveway Restoration Completed;
  • Boulevard Stones from Jeffery Street to Thompson Road Street Ongoing; and,
  • Restored all Traffic Signal Lights to Operational Condition

The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of November 12, 2018 to November 16, 2018:

  • Modify traffic routes as needed for the Thompsons Road Intersection Line Painting;
  • Start Line Painting in all Areas;
  • Complete boulevard stones from Jeffery Street heading south;
  • Continue with  site furnishings and cap stones on veneer;
  • Continue the installation of the mid hill seating area; and,
  • Complete all finishing touches in various areas.

Weather permitting, JB Enterprises is hoping to put line painting down next week.  This will include the lines that delineate each lane of traffic, crosswalk bars, stop bars and parking spaces.  If this work is able to be completed there will be temporary traffic modifications but the expectation is that this operation will be addressed in a timely fashion.

With the winter maintenance season quickly approaching, the Town asks that you please be understanding of the fact that our winter maintenance on the Main Street corridor will be completely new to our Operators.  As the season progresses, the Operators will develop a better understanding of the new obstacles and the most efficient way of completing the winter maintenance.

This Sunday November 11, 2018 will be the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Cenotaph.  Works have been completed in this area to allow the ceremonies to take place as usual but please be aware of the taped off areas as the fresh sod will be very soggy and not a stable walking or standing surface.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and understanding throughout the project.  Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
