Payette Water System Secondary Water Supply: Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

The Town of Penetanguishene has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the Payette Water System. The purpose of this Class EA is to identify near- and long- term recommendations to address water supply redundancy within the Town.

How Will This Affect Me?

In the 1990’s the Town’s Robert Street wells were taken out of service. Since that time, the Town has relied on water from the Payette Drive well supply.

A number of options have been considered by the Town in the past related to water supply redundancy. Options considered previously have included: maintaining the status quo, adding a new well field, adding treatment to the Robert Street wells, and others.

The purpose of this Schedule B Class EA is to evaluate and select the preferred secondary water supply alternative for the Town. The supply alternatives proposed may have an impact on stakeholders and property owners, therefore, public consultation will be a key element of the process and input will be sought throughout the study.
