Penetanguishene Acts on Litter: October 24th, 2020
Wednesday, October 21 - October 19-25 is the 19th annual Waste Reduction Week in Canada, which challenges everyone to reduce their ecological footprint and inspire unique, creative ways to reduce waste.
Earlier this year, in support of efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 and help keep Ontarians safe, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks postponed the 2020 Day of Action on Litter cleanups, originally slated to take place May 12th, 2020.
As a continuation of the Provincial Day of Action on Litter initiative, the Town has organized a plan for a community cleanup, Saturday October 24, where we invite residents to take a moment to clean up their neighbouring areas.
Residents can pickup a garbage bag from the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Center Saturday October 24th, between 8:00am-4:00pm. The bags will be located in a grey bin outside of the door. Alternatively, Residents are welcome to use their own provided household garbage bags.
Once you have completed your cleanup, please drop off the tied-up garage bag(s) to the arena and place them in the brown dumpster bin.
Interested in tracking your litter cleanup?
The Litter Tracker invites cleanup participants to track details about your cleanup and the type of litter you collect. We are seeking community support by asking citizens to submit their Litter Tracker information to the ministry after their cleanups, by completing this Litter Cleanup Report-Back form. This information will help us better understand litter in our environment and may help inform future government decision making.
COVID-19 safety tips for Public Litter Cleanup include:
• Keep cleanups small-scale and part of the same household.
• Use Personal Protective Equipment (gloves and masks) or a litter grabber when picking up litter.
- Visit Ontario’s website to learn more about how the province continues to protect the people of Ontario from COVID-19.
