Provincial announcement imposes changes to recreation facility operations
December 17, 2021 - In response to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, and following the provincial announcement of new restrictions to control the spread of the Omicron variant, the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (PMCC) will be restricting the number of people that can enter the facility to 50% capacity, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
“The provincial announcement has required our staff to pivot and enhance safety protocols in an effort to keep our staff, residents and user groups safe” says Sherry Desjardins, Director of Recreation and Community Services. “Since the announcement at 4:00pm, all user groups have been contacted separately and made aware of the changes that affect their scheduled programing. We will continue to monitor the latest announcement and ensure that user groups and public are made aware of any changes to the legislation.”
In addition to the 50% capacity limit, the province has announced that food and beverages are no longer permitted. As of Sunday, December 19 the food concession stand will remain closed until restrictions are lifted.
The Town of Penetanguishene’s Municipal Emergency Control Group will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and work with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to ensure our facilities remain safe. Community members can continue to refer to the Towns website, www.penetanguishene.ca and social media channels for any updates or changes that occur.
