Purchase of Property at 51 Dunlop Street Finalized
April 22, 2021 - The Town of Penetanguishene has completed the purchase of property located at 51 Dunlop Street – the site of the former Penetanguishene Secondary School.
Penetanguishene - In January 2021, the Town finalized an Agreement to purchase the property located at 51 Dunlop Street, with conditions. Those conditions have recently been satisfied and the sale is now final, with the final purchase price of the property for $1,295,000 (inclusive of HST).
At the May 12, 2021 Council meeting, Town staff will share information about the property and it’s condition, including the vacant secondary school building that sits on the land. Council will begin to consider the Town’s possible next steps for the use of the property.
“The significance of this property and memories it holds for our community members will not be forgotten during this process. Throughout the next few months, Council and Staff will ensure transparency throughout the decision-making process and offer various options for participation to ensure your voices are heard” says Mayor Doug Leroux.
Due to the COVID-19 closure, Council meetings are being held virtually. The virtual meetings are live streamed on RogersTV, and the Town of Penetanguishene YouTube Channel. Information on how to participate is available on our website.
51 Dunlop Street is a large, centrally located property. There are many possibilities to reimagine the site in a way that supports the Town’s existing plans for growth, respects the property’s local significance and benefits our growing community outlined in our 2019-2023 Community Based Strategic Plan.
“This initial meeting on May 12th will act as a steppingstone to better understand what our members of Council, Staff and community members envision for the future use of the land, the final decision will be ratified by Council on May 26th” says Jeff Lees, CAO.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to engage in a public consultation process with municipal staff and Members of Council to provide their opinions and discuss further plans for the property. Details about a public consultation process will be announced in the near future.
