Town of Penetanguishene partners with Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe to bring more recreation to the community

Joint Release – Town of Penetanguishene and Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe

Penetanguishene - The Town of Penetanguishene is pleased to announce a 1-year partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe.

This partnership will see the BGCNS take over as the Towns sole provider of March Break and Summer day camps for children and youth in our community. The Penetanguishene Museum and Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (Arena) will be the onsite locations for the younger and older day camp programs. Virtual camp options will also be available if needed due to Covid-19 and social distancing requirements.

“We are excited about all the potential that this partnership will bring to the residents of Penetanguishene” says Sherry Desjardins, Director of Recreations and Community Services. “BGCNS is a well-respected organization that delivers quality, diversified and affordable programming for youth. With our local day camp program in good hands, the Recreation and Community Services team will be able to focus on other value-added programming for the community that would not otherwise take place” she added.

The Town of Penetanguishene has traditionally operated a day camp program over March Break and during the months of July and August for ages 4-11. During the winter, the one-week camp is held upstairs at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre. During the summer, the Voyageur Camp is hosted on the Curling Club surface for the older campers and the Kinder Camp at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives for the younger campers.

“Thank-you so much to the Town of Penetanguishene for inviting us into your community to offer our camp programming. We are really looking forward to this partnership. Campers and their families can expect to find weekly themes that will include exploring within your community, STEAM activities, arts and crafts, fitness and making new friends! The Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe look forward to meeting you all and making lasting memories.” – Heather Purchon, Operations Manager Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe

Currently the BGCNS operates a day camp and numerous other youth programs in the Town of Midland at the North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre. They currently serve over 300 North Simcoe children and youth, some of which are residents of Penetanguishene.

Set to begin for the Summer of 2021, The BGCNS staff have begun to plan for this coming season and encourage you to watch for updates on their webpage www.bgcnorthsimcoe.com for details about online registration.
