Town of Penetanguishene Welcomes Back Winter Swimming Programs
The Town of Penetanguishene is happy to announce the return of swimming programs for January 2023.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Penetanguishene hosted swimming programs using the pool space at the Waypoint Mental Health Centre. Unfortunately, these programs were put on pause to protect the Waypoint residents from increased traffic flow in the facility.
Waypoint and the Town have been working together on the best approach and timing for re-establishing community use of the pool for swimming lessons and open swimming based on keeping Waypoint patients, staff, visitors, and our community members safe.
The timing and consideration for re-opening the pool and other public areas for community use is part of Waypoint’s operational recovery planning.
To align with Waypoint’s COVID-19 requirements as a health care facility:
- Participants and guardians are asked to screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and not attend if feeling unwell.
- Mask-wearing is required while in the common areas of the facility by all participants and guardians.
- Participants and guardians are asked to use the hand sanitizer when entering the facility.
- All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible. Masks are not worn during swim programs.
- Participants are encouraged to come prepared to swim (showered, etc.).
- Only one adult per participant is permitted on deck and/or in the pool.
- The program may be canceled in the case of a widespread outbreak at Waypoint.
Community members can register for 2023 swimming programs beginning December 7th, 2022, through the online registration portal RecDesk.
