Council & Committee of the Whole Highlights, February 8

- Council held a Public Meeting regarding a Zoning By-law Amendment for the Removal of the Holding (H) Symbol for 284 Watson Road. No comments from the public were made and Council approved the application.
- Council presented 5 students, and teacher, Mr. Austin Vavrovics from Burkevale Protestant School certificates recognizing their recent win in the national space competition.
- Council also presented certificates to the Penetanguishene U13 Flames for winning the International Silver Stick Tournament in Forest Ontario.
- Council approved the Committee of the Whole Report from January 11, 2023, and Special Committee of the Whole from January 25, 2023.
- Council received a memo regarding the 2023 Final Budget Draft and a memo regarding the revised Pre-Servicing Policy for information.
- Council deferred a report on the terms of reference for the Town Dock Technical Advisory Committee of Council.
- Council approved the Securing Canada’s $1 Billion Investment in a Strengthened Freshwater Action Plan as presented.
- Mayor Rawson and Deputy Mayor La Rose moved a notice of motion to freeze any grants and funding to the EDCNS until requests outlined in the motion have been met. The item will be discussed at the next Council meeting on March 8, 2023.
- Council passed 3 by-laws, including:
- 2023-06 By-law to Appoint a Fire Chief
- 2023-07 to Amend By-law 2000-02 - ZA 1 2023
- 2023-08 to Amend By-law 2022-17 - ZA 1 2023
Committee of the Whole (Committee) facilitates the decision-making process of Council. The Committee is comprised of all members of Council who fully participate in debate and forward recommendations to Council for final decision. Items that are discussed in Committee of the Whole are to be ratified at Council’s next meeting.

- Committee received the 2022 Fee Waiver Requests summary for information.
- Committee received a memo regarding the Boat Slip Wait List, outlining Penetanguishene residents as a priority.
- Committee received a memo regarding a Guinness World Record Event by Sledheads 4 Kids.
- Committee approved the Ice Allocation Policy as presented.
- Committee approved the Ice User Group Agreements as presented.
- Committee received the monthly Municipal Law Enforcement Activity report for January 2023 for information.
- Committee received a letter from Mayor D. Evans of Tiny Township regarding Township of Tiny’s Appointment to the Penetanguishene Library Board.
- Committee received the 2022 Annual Water & Wastewater Write-Offs for information.
- Committee received a Communications and Social Media Activity Report - Semi Annual Update July 2022- December 2022 for information.
- Committee received the 2022 Property Taxes Receivable Report for information.
- Committee received the Allocation of Municipal Modernization Funds Update and approved the outlined actions within the report.
- Committee approved the staff recommended action within the SWIFT Rural Broadband report.
- Committee received the Post 2022 Accessibility Municipal Election Report for information.
