Town and OCWA Taking Action to Address Odour Concerns at the Main Street Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Town of Penetanguishene is aware of odour concerns reported by residents in the area surrounding the Main Street Wastewater Treatment Plant and understands the impact these issues can have on nearby neighbourhoods.

In partnership with the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), which operates the facility on the Town's behalf, staff have reviewed current plant operations and identified adjustments aimed at reducing odours and optimizing treatment processes. These changes have now been implemented, and their effectiveness is being closely evaluated.

Residents may continue to notice some odours in the immediate term as the system responds to these adjustments. However, improvements are expected as the changes take effect, with conditions anticipated to begin improving today.

OCWA will continue to monitor the site closely and take any additional steps needed to address resident concerns.

The Town of Penetanguishene and OCWA appreciate residents' patience and understanding as these measures take effect. Further updates will be provided as necessary. Residents experiencing ongoing odour concerns are encouraged to submit a service ticket directly to OCWA by calling 1-888-355-1222.
