Notice of Significant Snowfall: November 18, 2022

Update: The Town of Penetanguishene would like to advise all residents and businesses that the Significant Weather Event has ended in Penetanguishene as Operations crews completed clearing all excess snow and sidewalks earlier today.

If there are any areas that have been missed, please contact the Public Works Department.

A significant snowfall event has occurred in Penetanguishene over the last 12 hours and is expected to continue throughout the day. Due to the amount of snow accumulation that has been received over this period the Roads Division may be delayed in reaching some areas of the road network as per the Town Road Maintenance Policy.

Robert and Main Street Intersection:

In these slippery road conditions, we have activated the flashing traffic lights on the corner of Main Street and Robert Street. Both drivers and pedestrians must obey the traffic signals that control an intersection.

When approaching the Main Street intersection controlled by the flashing amber light, the drivers on Main Street have the right of way. This is not a four way stop. Drivers on Main Street must enter the intersection with caution and yield the right of way to any pedestrians within the crosswalks. Pedestrians should remember that drivers are not required to come to a full stop for a flashing amber light; and before entering the roadway against amber light, a pedestrian should exercise extra care and be on guard against drivers who may not be able to stop.

When approaching the Robert Street intersection controlled by the flashing red light, the drivers on Robert Street are required to stop and may only enter the intersection when it is safe to do so (as they would for a stop sign). Pedestrians should remember that while the drivers on Robert Street are stopped there may be vehicles turning from Main Street. Pedestrians should exercise extra care and be on guard against drivers who may not be able to stop. Take notice that when the flashing lights are activated there will be a Disruption of Service under the Accessibility Customer Service Standard on a temporary basis during the winter season.

We appreciate your patience during this time.  If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 705-549-7992.
